Information for New Volunteers
Thank you for sharing your time and energy with Island Grown Gleaning! We look forward to meeting you. Visit the HOME page of this Gleaning website to read about our program and the impact of your hard work.
First, Registration
If you haven't registered through this Gleaning website yet, go to our REGISTER page and fill out the short form.
Next, Sign Up to Glean
Go to our GLEANS page and choose any glean from the calendar. Follow the instructions there to sign up. Details about each glean are shown below the calendar. We send weekly emails to notify volunteers about upcoming gleans, but we may post small gleans on the calendar without advertising. If you're not receiving these emails, check your spam folder. After that, contact the Gleaning manager by emailing astrid@igimv.org and we'll make sure you're on our Gleaning-specific email list.
Read and check off the Terms of Participation and the Waiver of Liability. Then you can click "Signup for this glean" to be added to the roster. After signup, you'll see details including the location of the glean - you'll receive an email with the same information and a cancellation link.
Need to Cancel?
The confirmation email you received includes a link where you can cancel so someone else can take your spot. Your courtesy will help us schedule the right number of volunteers.
On the Waitlist?
If there is a waitlist for a glean, it means the roster is full. Please sign up anyways and join the waitlist! If someone cancels, a spot will open up. This also helps us determine which days, times, or crops are preferred by volunteers.
Difficulty Signing Up for Gleans
Perhaps you typed your name differently than you did when you initially registered? Be sure to check off the Liability Waiver. If you are still unable to access the roster, contact the Gleaning Manager at astrid@igimv.org
Update Contact Information
If you are updating contact information like your email address, phone number, or emergency contact, go to the VOLUNTEERS page and click on "Update". If you need to make a name change, email the Gleaning Manager at astrid@igimv.org.
Other Questions?
Email Gleaning Manager Astrid Tilton at astrid@igimv.org with questions about Gleaning, donating produce and other local food, or IGI's collaborative venison and fish donation programs. If you need assistance on the morning before a glean, please call our office at 508-687-9062.
We Depend On You!
Island Grown Gleaning is a program of Island Grown Initiative. Since 2006, Island Grown Initiative has led an innovative, collaborative effort to increase local food production, reduce food waste, promote climate-friendly farming techniques, and expand access to healthy, affordable food throughout the Martha's Vineyard community. As a non-profit organization we rely on donations to support our efforts. If you share our mission and would like to help, click the Donate link at the top of any of our web pages.
