Field Trip Application

While we always do our best to accommodate groups who must plan ahead, unfortunately we cannot guarantee a glean more than 24 hours in advance! This is because gleaning is dependent on the farmer having an excess of unsaleable produce. Please confirm your glean on the day before by contacting us at 508-939-0841 or

Your gleaning leader will provide needed tools and harvest instructions.

We are first and foremost concerned about safety!

Students should be closely supervised at all times. We ask that chaperones stay focused on oversight and interaction with students rather than doing harvest work.

Before the trip, please refresh knowledge of common natural hazards like poison ivy and deer tick diseases. Review the disclaimers below with your students and encourage them to be very careful.

Be aware of surroundings. Do not run in the fields. Step with care because the ground is uneven and rocks or holes may be hidden by plants and weeds. The soil will be slippery when wet.

Kids should not lift anything that feels too heavy – there are others who can assist. Help the students pace themselves and take breaks as needed, especially during hot weather.

On behalf of the minors in my charge, I do not hold Island Grown Initiative, its board, members, employees or volunteers liable for any injury, accident or death of students while participating in a glean or food recovery event. Neither will I hold the person(s) who owns and/or operates the farm from which we glean or area in which we recover food, liable for accidents, injury or death.

In the unlikely case of accident or injury during gleaning, I hereby give permission for medical treatment deemed necessary and reasonable by a doctor.

Photos, videos, audio and other images in which we appear may be used by Island Grown Gleaning for news coverage, publicity, reports, displays, and for promotional purposes.
