New Volunteers

Join us! No experience needed. Gleans are scheduled on weekdays. When temperatures are comfortable we have morning and afternoon gleans. On days with hotter temperatures we only glean in the morning. Most gleans are scheduled just a few days in advance. Register below to access our signup system and Gleaning Calendar.

Want to be notified about upcoming gleans? Contact the Gleaning Manager at astrid@igimv.org and ask to be added to our Gleaning-specific email list OR register through Island Grown Initiative's Volunteer page on IGI's main website. This helps us get to know you a bit better and you can learn about IGI's other volunteer opportunities.

Gleaning volunteers harvest produce from Island farms to share with the community. We spend extra time removing old leaves, checking for spots, and handling produce with care. IGI provides tools, instruction, and an experienced Field Captain. Most gleans last about an hour and a half and we have several gleans each week during summer and fall harvest seasons. Volunteers keep a share of the harvest for themselves. New volunteers are always welcome. Glean once a year, or every week!

"Gleaning brings people together around the abundance of agriculture. It connects us with local farms and makes us more thankful for the farmers and food we have in our community."- Kevin Brennan
